A clear measuring routine can help you judge whether a piece suits the room, the circulation around it and the route it must travel during delivery.
Measure the room and the route
A furniture piece can fit on paper but still feel tight in daily use, or be difficult to move through a doorway. Use this simple routine to record the space, clearance and access before ordering.
1. Record the usable room dimensions
Measure the wall or floor area where the furniture will sit. Record width, depth and available height, and note fixed elements such as skirting, windows, switches, sockets, columns and doors.
Width
Measure the usable wall or floor span, not only the total room width. Keep nearby doors, curtains and other furniture in mind.
Depth
Measure how far the piece can project into the room while preserving the walking path and normal use of the space.
Height
Check windows, wall-mounted items, shelves and other features above the planned position.
Clearance
Allow room for drawers, cabinet doors, chairs, people and any moving parts described on the product page.

Walk through the room as you normally would and identify the routes that should remain comfortable. Consider entry doors, balcony doors, wardrobes, bed sides, dining chairs and frequently used storage.
